Hugh,

You use a software program to download your images to some location
on your hard drive. But for that to happen the operating system must
be able to see the card and reader as a read/write drive. If the card
reader never recognizes the card neither will the operating system.
Doesn't matter what programs you are using or whether it is a Mac or
Windows machine or Unix server or whatever.

I had the same problem as Howard did. Same card and I use a Mac. What
I do is look at the drive (card and reader) in CS2 Bridge. I may
delete stuff and edit right off the card. I then copy my image files
to a new directory on an external, large hard drive. My problem was
an incompatability problem between that Ultra II card and the reader.
When I changed readers everything was fine.

Don't know what happened at your friends house. Some camera software
may clean up the card after downloading. In your friends computer the
software may have forgotten to download or put it in some obscure
directory and then deleted everything.

It's my feeling that the SanDisk Ultra II card may have a little
built in fault making it not compatible with every reader. In my
case the one reader did not recognize the Ultra II but an Extreme III
works just fine. It may be something as simple as the impedance of an
I/O port on the card a little too high.
