I think the corollary to McKeown's Law is "...if the buyer and seller are
happy, the right price has been paid...."

I am overjoyed that I will be receiving one of David's RD1's.

For my part, I fully embrace that I'll end up learning how to adjust the RF.
Not a problem here; it will add to my skillset of being able to work on
"classical" cameras. Now isn't that an oddity - to consider the RD1 as a
"classical" camera. But perhaps it is deserving of that nomination - first
digital to take the venerable M mount lenses, and heading down trajectory of
being discontinued, with passionate user base.

So far, I've rebuilt Hasselblad 500's and Alpa first generation cameras
after fully disassembly, and can do a decent job with mechanical M's. As
long as the electronics on the RD1 hold out, I figure I can deal with the
mechanical items.

As for the battery and memory card, that will be the nature of the beast.
I'll never use it in "high reliability" situations. I have M's, R's, Nikons
& Hasselblads for that.

My foray into digital has been using a Fuji 1 meg camera for my ebay ads. I
won't touch an M8 unless it comes to the same price range as an M2/3 camera
that is being sold "as is, needs repair". David's RD1 was at the right
price, and already pre-checked by a competent user. And less expensive than
Epson's current refurb sale (of which I don't have access to because I'm
Canadian).

I've seen the RD1 and M8 forums and read about all the headaches. But I've
also detected a thread of "Wow, this is wonderful", for both the RD1 and M8.
Even if I get completely fed up with the RD1, I will be able to say "I
experienced it for myself". But I'm fully prepared to experience "Wow, this
is wonderful".

So how could I lose?

I can't wait to get the kit in my hands.

Thank you David.

...snip....

Here are the specific reasons (besides the lost image files) that I decided
to part with the cameras:

1. the unreliable nature of the rangefinder (I didn't *really* want to learn
how to align it myself)
2. the battery (I don't want to have to worry about charging it -- I want to
grab my camera and go without a thought to the battery)
3. the SD card (when I click the shutter, I want the camera to take a
picture -- no matter what and sometimes I want to take more than two in
rapid succession)

So, digital rangefinders are a complete bust as far as I'm concerned.

Dave.
