CORPUS CHRISTI
27 June 2007
My Dear Ted--
There are some who may say that in replying to your heartbreaking message
that I am being flippant. Not so.
In our audio interview you repeatedly emphasized that the LUG was a
family.
Those of us who have responded only point out that there is but a small
difference between LUG and HUG.
Reba and I--as well as all those who have responded--are letting you know
that in this time of pain and sorrow that you and Irene are not alone.
I recall the words of Loren Eiseley:
I have been accused of wooly-mindedness for
entertaining even hope for man. I can only respond that
in the dim morning shadows of humanity, the inarticulate
creature who first hesitantly formed the words for pity and
love must have received similar guffaws around a fire.
Yet some men listened, for the words survive.
