... all the M3, M2, M4, M6, MP owners?  About 4 million of us......

As I said, Auto ISO /ASA is only another AE option, driven by space in 
programmable memories and processors inside that do not have enough to do 
....  No processor?  No Auto ISO.

Is it handy?  Probably.  Is it required?  Nope.

150 years of photography can't be all wrong........
