Definitely on our list for our next visit to Catalonia. Just two little ammedments: - Tabarca (or Alicante, la comunitat valenci?, or els illes balears) is not Catalonia, althought there is a certain pancatalanism lately based in the similarity of the lenguage and claiming them as paysos catalans, which does not make very happy some other locals, and IMHO has no historic or etnographic sense as those almost always were separate kingdoms. The Tabarca island is the only inhabited island of that side of the coast and it was been taken and left many times during the past centuries by the pirates as base to attack the nearby coast. At the end of XVIII century a group of 69 italian families where relocated by Carlos III there when the tunesians occuped an small island of same name, previously genevese, which btw changed the name of the island. So it's much closer to Italy than even any of Spain, either catal?, valenci?, alacant or whatever of the nearly coast :D All the defensive buildings and most houses still up were built to guard it, and that was all up to almost now. Electricity and other modern services came up late, or even very late. - I'm glad that many people is enjoying my recommendation to Nathan to visit such special place, much better, to me at least, off season.
