Subject: [Leica] Leica D lens 4/3rds question.

The smallest DSLR body is the Olympus 410 (four thirds) Just like its
ancestors the OMs, its making people and other manufacturers
sit up and take notice. Its marginally bigger brother, the 510 adds image
stabilisation, more live view functionality (I think), WB
bracketing and other nice features. That one is only marginally larger than
the D40X which is sans stabilisation. Four thirds is not
directly comparable to a "half frame" since the new ones are 10MP like the
APSC designs, even though the sensor area is smaller, of
course. A film half frame had half the resolution of its full frame
equivalent since they had less "film grains" to aim the light
at! 432 sq mm of emulsion vs 864 sq mm nominally. I agree most of the
zooms have a largish form factor, owing partly to the
designs to improve light angles arriving at the sensor. They are zooms of
course and some have IS built in. Primes, we need more
compact fast primes!
Cheers
Geoff

In film terms the camera format is half half frame.
They've got to scale down the camera to to get my attention.
There are nice digital half frames out here (APS-2 or DX) which are half the
size of these bloated 4/3's babies.
