Perhaps my last thought on this subject:

I work alone, no office coworkers, just a very occasional client  
meeting either at my office or theirs.
It occurs to me that you all serve as my "water cooler" mates.
So, when you pass by my "virtual cubicle" and say, "hey, nice photo"  
or "don't you think that's a little dark?"
you're providing a similar service as a coworker.
