I have used this method over and over on my lenses when they get dirty or have fingerprints and it works like a champ. For cleaning fingermarks, I use the Zeiss optical cleaning mixture with microfibre cloths. I find it to be excellent. You can get Zeiss moistened wipes in sachets, too. I think someone may have mentioned them. I bought a couple of hundred off the bay a while back. They are really easy to carry and effective to use. While you are being careful, be sure to use a clean soft brush to gently remove any dust or grit before you wipe with anything. Plenty of people on the list will tell you that modern Leica lens coatings are tough and I have no doubt that is true. I am always careful cleaning, maybe more than I need to be, but there is certainly no harm in it. I have never scratched any lens over quite a few years of camera handling. Ok, upon close inspection with a pen light through the front of the lens, I still have some oily residue left over. Looking at the lens directly on held to a light source like a ceiling lamp, the lens looks very clear all the way through, but with a pen light a see some slight leftover stuff, including dust in my lens. I don't recommend anyone use a pen light with their precious lenses if they're in anyway obsessive. You won't like what you see! Am I being obssesive about my lens, or should I order some ROR and a new microfibre cloth from BH photo? Will it affect picture quality is what I'm asking?
