I take your point about people always preferring the music from their  
teenage years, but I think I have a valid case here: my 18-year son  
and his friends still listen to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd  
or The Who, in addition of course to new bands. In contrast, most of  
the pre-1965 music is forgotten, a fate that I think will also befall  
most of today's bands.
