I think a 90mm on a Leica M is great - being able to see the area outside the framelines is so handy. Of course I do prefer the M3 because of this. I've never liked the wider finders on the M2 or M4. For longer than 90mm I go to my OM-1, OM-2, or Nikon F. These days 80% of my personal work is with my M3 or IIIf. I like 90's so much, I have four to choose among. Before digital, I used rangefinders for maybe a third of my shooting at work, too, especially for covering quiet events using two with different focal lengths. And I have to add my experiences to the discussion on invisibility by saying that I also seemed to be able to be unobtrusive even while wearing two Nikons FTn's or F2's (we didn't have any zooms in our office inventory back then). If by "long" you mean 90mm, many of my B&W pictures in the gallery are with this focal length; the 50 and the 90 being my two most used lenses. I'm gradually getting tech info into the photo captions.
