At least as quiet as the M8, so that should not be an issue. ISO 1600 is too much for the M8 really and I would be surprized if it were "great" on the E3. Helen's 510 is good up to 800, and the M8 is good up to 400, so you will need at least an extra stop with the M8: and with IS, perhaps you can get away with 800 really on the E3. You could go with "film"!!!!! and an M6 --- that would be novel ;-) DMR is noisier and only really handles up to ISO 400 with a Herr "push". Sounds like the E3 is almost "in-hand", so give it a go and let us know ;-) Cheers --- richard-lists@imagecraft.com wrote: From: Richard Man <richard-lists@imagecraft.com> To: "lug-leica-users.org" <lug@leica-users.org> Subject: [Leica] What to use for concert photography? Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2008 17:04:42 -0800 I will be shooting a few taiko concerts officially. This means pre- and post- performances (hope to get some good candid shots), shooting from side of the stage and in front during performances. No flash of course during performances. Currently, my longest lens is 90/2 M and that won't work on the R-D1. So I am thinking (for other reasons also) to pick up an Oly E-3. The zoom lens should come in hand during the various composition possibility of the performance. I think ISO 1600 should be sufficient for F2.8 /3.5 shots. The noise on the E-3 seems ti be OK and the in-body stabilization should help. The other alternatives is to get a M8 and a 135mm, but a) it's way too expensive, and b) I would probably need to put a wide angle lens on the R-D1 to cover the other end, so it's definitely not as flexible.
