Subject: [Leica] R10? That's so pedestrian... Info on 28/2.8 still wanted...

The image circle is at least 63mm diameter. What the quality is like 
at the edges, I don't know. The image circle is enough for the Xpan 
probably, as it's a bit bigger than that of the Nikkor 28/3.5PC. 
There might be a problem though with the location of the rear exit 
pupil, as the lens is designed for an SLR. You might well get 
vignetting as the Xpan throat is not all that large, and an exit 
pupil far from the film plane might be cut into by that throat. A RF 
coupled mount has to be very carefully designed and manufactured not 
to cut further into this throat. You'll probably get vignetting. The 
28/3.5 PC Nikkor has this problem, and is thus not fully useable on 
the Xpan. The Nikkor is also definitely lacking in the quality 
department compared with the 30 Xpan lens. The Xpan lens may be slow, 
but it works. No point in using the larger Xpan film area if the 
quality isn't that good.
