Depends on the cams on the lens. If it's a three-cam lens you use the camera as originally intended. If the lens doesn't have the 3rd cam, metering might be unpredictable, and there's a chance that the body's metering cam follower will be bent if it's a two-cam lens and it's used for many years. Apparently the odds of any damage to the body are very small.
