I had one on my D200 and really liked it, and am waiting for one for the D300. I don't think they make one specifically for the M8, but they have a number of "generic" sized ones. They are self-adhesive and are easily removed with a hairdryer. This might give you some protection until you can get the screen repaired. I know that mine was certainly easier to keep clean than the stock Nikon screen.
