Part of the enjoyment comes from using the M6, the rangefinder brightness, the crisp clicks of the aperture ring, the ease of focusing, the very quiet shutter, the ease of transport, and I love the results. I have this wonderful spirited feeling in a days walk through a park, around a city, and people watching with my M6. Of course, I could do the same with an M8 and from the looks of the lovely images here on the LUG, many of us do and create sparkling results. I still enjoy the negative and the fact that I can store the negative for ever and ever (well...not really but look at the newly released Capa rolls) and it's always there barring some disaster. Digital media has greatly advanced too but for me, the negative does what I want in the way that I like to photograph. Cost can be an issue and at $15 for 36 exp, that can add up. I generally go to the local target and get 26 exp for $5.99 and a $2.99 CD with all the rolls I bring in at the same time. I also enjoy my new D300 but for different reasons - primarily related to type of photography. Several weeks ago, I attended a horse show event and took many digital pics for a possible veterinary text I'm working on with a professional in that field. For that purpose, the digital was just the tool and a marvelous one at that. I'm sure I'll use it to take action shots of my kids playing soccer this spring and watersport pics in the summer. I hope to attend the F1 Canadian GP and the D300 will come in great there, too. Maybe an Indycar race or perhaps the Red Bull US Grand Prix - Motogp, too...There are, however, many other opportunities to photograph that fit the M6 perfectly and for me, I'm grateful, happy, and quite pleased to leave the D300 home while the M6 accompanies me to new places to explore and new things to ponder. It's all ASAP!! at work. It's great to work to my own schedule off duty, and enjoy the whole process from loading film to sleeveing negatives. I need to have that negative or slide to hold in my hand or it's just not satisfying.
