The Hummer's off-the-shelf components are easier and less energy-intensive to recycle and are more likely to be re-used when the original vehicle they were installed in is retired. Also the Prius is driven fewer miles annually so the energy cost of manufacture and disposal is spread over fewer miles. HTH. I'm still not buying a Hummer.
