Do we know what percentage that is?  Do we even know how many  M8's are out
there?

My guess is thta we hear the horror stories because we stand on the right
street corner to hear the news.   I dunno, and would be interested in how
many Oly, Nikon, Pentax and Canon get sent back.

I only bought one other new Leica, an M6, and it had a dead counter out of
the box.

Biggest problem in this regard is that most cameras these days are not sold
from stock, but drop shipped from the distributor.  The dealer has to depend
on statistics for quality control..

That has been the case for some time.  It works to some extent, but when the
dealer doesn't get to check it out like the old days, the opportunity for a
crash is much higher.

(You can tell I'm feeling better these days, huh?   I'm walking really good,
with my new knees.  )
