My son uses that same IMac you are talking about with the 24" screen. He is 
a graphic designer and a web designer, works for a large Company and has his 
own business as well. He tells me it is the best Mac he has ever used for 
his needs, which are pretty high with work compared to just manipulating a 
few photos.
Anyway, I don't think you would have a problem. I'm using a PowerMac G5 
about 5 years old, and when time comes to replace it, I will not need the 
same but will go to something like an IMac or whatever is the latest 
reincarnation at that time.
