I chose them over SCSIs because ESDI was faster than SCSI! Some eccentrics of the era refused to call trhem ESDIs and preferred calling them advanced RLLs instead. I still have an old ESDI controller sonmewhere I think. Got a few old Priam and Micropolis SMDs as well. And a Unix PC.
