Richard,

I will weigh in on this, as I, well my wife now, have this lens on the D200. 
 The lens is a excellent performer, however it is slow with a max aperture 
of 3.5 ~ 5.6.  It has dropped off to 5.6 by 50 mm point so for outdoor or 
just a general all around lens it is great, but if you need speed it falls 
down very quickly.  It is a very sought after lens for Nikon and you will 
look hard to find one, although they are starting to show up at dealers 
finally.
