It was designed for another "purpose", and is not totally suitable for the M8. That said, there are some "modifications" ( lens shims, RF adjustments) that can be done to make it better. Will it ever be "right" with those "modifications"? No. Variable focus shift requires a different (different mechanical or optical ) design solution that will compensate. To be honest, there is no other solution that is "right". A new Nocti could rather easily be designed to compensate. An existing lens can be made to work, with caveats. Application and Technology is like that....... Actually, you are the first to suggest a dedicated M8 body for the Nocti...... That way the "modifications" can be done, and the body be adjusted to perform as well as possible with that Nocti... and the other lenses would be used on another body, adjusted for all the other lenses without the ( same amount of) focus shift. People do it with their film cameras, why not with the M8? ((Because the M8 costs about double what a new M7 costs, and 5x what a nice used M6 costs........)) Frank Filippone red735i@earthlink.net Noctilux and make it go out of focus when you stop down a few. Could they really be that stupid? I don't think so. I'd get yours fixed if it did that. When my stuff breaks or doesn't work like it should I get it fixed.
