Hi Tina,

Well I sure as hell am not an apologist on Leica's behalf. However I am a
champion of the lenses and have always been so. OK a few digi-times they
completely ticked me off.  But I'm a staunch M8 user!

But I'd rather have a Leica lens between me and subject than any other and
have done so for over 50 years as a working photojournalist. 

Here's how effective a Leica lens made print can be.. Several photographs
shot about 45 years ago were flat bed scanned, blown - up and reprinted
about 18X12 photo size on 13x19 paper. Some viewers thought I had made them
from the original negatives. That's Leica sharp!

 

I don't have one IR filter, yep run into the magenta effect a few times but
fixed it by going B&W in printing or managed to fiddle the colour enough to
get by.

Like you not shooting lots of black clothes or like materials. I'm not, so I
don't sweat it without the filters!

 

Quite frankly I prefer the finer detail in the final reproduction of the M8
photograph far more important any day, than concerns of an IR filter in
front of the lens! Or wherever they might eventually put it in the camera.

 

I can never understand why some folks bitch so ferociously about a Leica and
yet use them? Wouldn't it be so much easier on ones mental health, not to
forget stomach ulcers, to buy other manufacturers gear? Than throw a hissy
fit over a piece of gear you have absolutely no control over the production?
I suppose ranting ones self is helpful? :-)

 

Actually I've had a few times when I felt the slight magenta cast was most
appealing! :-) I know I'm looking at the images with only one good eye! ;-)
