As we are judging Doug's print making against Johns. Both might shoot birds.... One with a Nikon lens and body one with a Leica lens and body both digital. But the PRINT MAKING is a HUGE VARIABLE. Three quarters of the pie if you ask me. Even if we knew that both John and Doug were in the same "class" of print maker as in "both very good" which is the one I would guess its horseshoes played from a Piper Cub as to how much the images are responding to the printing and how much are in the raw captures themselves. In the old days if both were shooting Kodachrome you could project them and make such an assessment. - not from prints. Not then not now. An inspired print maker can make great prints from a half assed camera and lens system clean up from the prints from a Leica if that print maker was not as inspired one but just very good. And John may be not just very good but inspired. Or could Doug be. I have one of Doug's prints. But with only one I cant make such a call. Not with bases loaded at the bottom of the 9th. mark@rabinergroup.com Mark William Rabiner > From: Jayanand Govindaraj <jayanand@gmail.com> > Reply-To: Leica Users Group <lug@leica-users.org> > Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2008 08:43:01 +0530 > To: Leica Users Group <lug@leica-users.org> > Subject: Re: [Leica] R10 news > > Geoff, > The D3 prints are by John Shaw, who is, by the way, an acknowledged master > of nature photography, whose books are the starting point for any budding > nature photographer and a Nikon legend - I don't own a D3: > > http://www.johnshawphoto.com/ > > http://nikon.net/dyn/articles/article_detail/99.html > > I have four prints of Doug of varying sizes, from small to big, all printed > by him, so I am comparing the two sets. > > I think I will exit this debate right now - as usual nobody reads what I > write carefully, and nobody is willing to have an open mind on this. > > Cheers > Jayanand > > > > On Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 7:46 AM, Geoff Hopkinson > <hoppyman@bigpond.net.au>wrote: > >> Jayanand I only have smaller (A4) prints here from you and they are not >> from >> your D3.
