Even in the film world, I would take a well-exposed R8+100mm Apo Macro image, for example, over many MF images. In the digital world there are so many other factors that come in that the relationship between size and image quality is even less clear-cut. I think, for example, the the images from my E3 are better than those I got from the Canon 1DII, despite the difference in sensor size--because the Oly lenses are better IMO. Having said that, I have no doubt that the Canon 1DSIII would blow my E3 and any other current DSLR out of the water...although when I look at Doug's DMR images, I have a hard imagining that they could be surpassed.
