Polaroid was purchased by a Minnesota investor named Tom Petters. He took it private. It is still in business, transforming itself from an instant camera/film company to an electronics company. Petters was recently arrested and locked up with out bail for a "ponzi" investment fraud taking some $3 Billion or so from people. Polaroid has filed chapter 11 for protection from the fraud and continues in business.
