Subject: [Leica] Olympus M 4/3rds - some adapter silliness

Hi Joe,
The picture of the mockup is from Photokina. There is no viewfinder on the
mockup but in the diagrams below there appears to be. I have the panasonic
G1 and the adapter from Ray Qual to fit M lenses on the G1. It has an
Electronic View finder which I was prepared to hate based on my experience
with the old Lumix L1 but as I use the G1 I have grown to accept the EVF. I
think the Oly will be of more limited value if it does not have an EVF as
well as the live view screen on the back. The short distance between lens
bayonet mount and CCD (20mm) means that a whole bunch of lenses can be
attached with various combinations of adapters. Here is an example.
I just got a 19mm Elmarit R (Version 1) (the version which doesn't catch the
mirrors of full frame digital SLRs) and with a borrowed novoflex R to M
adapter (thank you Ray) I have mounted the Elmarit with the novoflex adapter
via the Ray Qual adapter in the G1. Please see:

You might ask why would anyone want to do that? Well, the simple answer is
because one can! :-)
Eventually I will change the bayonet on the Elmarit to a Nikon one (from
Leitax.com) and use the lens (along with my remaining R lenses also with
changed bayonets) on my Nikon D700. Then I won't care how long it takes
Leica to bring out the digital R and if and when that camera arrives and I
am seduced into buying it I can put the Leica bayonets back on the R lenses.
The Leica digital R will have to be awfully good to be better than the D700
I observe.
Shall we have lunch and I can show you this stuff?
Cheers
Howard
