My needs are different since I will be mostly using the XPan and the E-3. For vertical, have you looked into an L bracket? That seems to be the thing to do. Most monopods makes lousy hiking stick, which is what I also need. The Manfratto 1564 or something like that is sturdy but a tad heavy (although it would be nothing compared to the Telyt...) Most other monopods I tried just bounce around when you try to walk with it - I seem to recall 6-7 years I threw out a monopod because of that. The Trek-POD is both bad for hiking and lousy for being a monopod, despite being advertised as suitable for both tasks :-( For a while, I was using a hardwood Karate Bo staff for hiking (great for protection too if you know how to use it... and we know how to use it) and stopped taking that to the plane after 9/11. Anyway, it may still be the best choice. I may just have to install a 1/4" screw standoff for it. I have ordered a lightweight ballhead and an L-bracket. I am planning to do some hike-and-photo this weekend, I will relay my experience later....
