[Leica] re: Erwin

I take everything Erwin writes with a grain of salt, simply because I have 
never been satisfied that he does not have undeclared commercial interests 
in promoting Leica.  His optical knowledge is solid, but he expresses 
himself poorly.  I understand that he is not a native English speaker, but 
if he wants to publish as an authority, he should get his work edited for 
clarity.  I also didn't like the pictures he has shown and would prefer to 
look at better pictures taken with less technically investigated equipment.

I have an M8, a couple of film Leicas, some Nikon SLRs and a few 
Rolleiflexes.  I may add a 5x7 or system medium format camera sometime.  My 
professional photography is currently mostly limited to work down a 
microscope, for which I have a Zeiss scanning camera attached to our 
microscopes at work.  For my own work, colour photography doesn't really 
interest me.  I understand and am confortable with B&W film exposure, at 
least in terms of getting results that I like.  Since it is 'personal work' 
this is all that matters.  I have struggled with this with the M8 and am 
still equivocal about most monochrome digital work, including most of the 
very good work shown here on the LuG.  I'd rather spend time shooting film 
happily and making myself happy than struggling with digital.  I am 
comfortable with the output, the cost it incurs to me, and I think materials 
will be available for my lifetime, so I'm sticking with it.

If Leica made an M8 with a monochrome sensor with wider dynamic range than 
the M8 and highlight rendition at least as good as the Nikon D700 I'd be 
interested.  But I doubt they will ever make such a camera for a few cranks. 
 I would also work differently if I was working for a newspaper, or taking 
photos of people's weddings, or something like that.
