Gary, the rationale behind the S2 has certainly been much debated and
discussed. Also its role for developing systems and components that may form
part of future Leica cameras too.
For example the Maestro processor, the AF systems, the central shutters(?)
and the (Kodak) sensor technology itself(?). THAT one has me
intriguedespecially. Note the reported super accurate colour and white
balance information from the fashion shoot shots with a pre-production S2.
NO external UV/IR correction.
I recommend you get your hands on the LFI issue and read the complete
article for further comments by the Leica hierarchy. Fascinating to me.

The 'CL of digital' seems to have popular support on the internet forums. It
certainly sounds like Leica are hinting in that direction. I don't see what
you could remove from the M8 design to make it much simpler though. If that
is so, you need a much cheaper to manufacture body with an M mount. If that
means an EVF I think it would lose its rangefinder essence. I wouldn't be
surprised at all to see a D system new body in conjunction with Panasonic
...Digilux 4?? with micro four thirds lenses?? Sound like you would rather
see an 'M-Lux" !!!
