It could almost pass for a WWI era photo, but the tones are too good. I think the color version is a bit to honest a depiction of his face. The black and white version is just about right. You are close enough to get a good look at the man and his tools. You see who he is and what he does. The only suggestion is that maybe you could crop a bit off the left to about where the ladder ends at the bottom. I think that would make a stronger composition with the ladder making a nice diagonal element.
