For me
the still frame approach he used
with a $500 - $900 camera (current market price)
including the device
of the hearing impaired main character
to get around the sound synch issues
the film deserves credit
totally on its own merits
as
an aesthetically pleasing
well thought out
and executed
short film

a lesson
on what one can do
with what one has

as opposed to
"Think of the work he could have avoided?"

Yes. He could have made a totally different film with different  
equipment.
as far as work - well the 5DII for video requires a good deal of  
other sorts of effort,
including sound issues, viewing a framing issues; etc.
