In the days when we were pros together (I didn't do sports), he'd be
buying Nikkor 400mm f2.8's, 800mm f5.6's and 600mm f4's to keep at the
top. If you look at his CV as the chief sports photographer for the
Observer, his equipment was his own, he started out as an agency guy for
allsports, but there they had access to a pool of equipment. Nowadays
life is tougher as most of the newspapers here just throw allsports a
wad of cash for yearly coverage and the agency then sends out 4x 20 year
old's to sit at the events.

Film was free btw, he had a deal with fuji. Regardless whether you
believe me or not, or what your son does, and thinking about it, you
would know Mike, big guy over 6 foot 2, won lots of awards ? certainly
been to the Olympics the same time as you.
