E39 means 'Einschraub' 39mm; ie, screw-in 39mm as opposed to A36
which the older 3.5 Elmars take, meaning 'Aufsteck' 36mm, or
'slip-on'.
So in any case, 39mm is the size. The pitch is all the same.
The E5.5 is kind of a bastardized size, as in the first instance
Series go in full numbers, and 5.5 is not defined except by
individual manufacturers, and then Series are drop in filters, not
threaded.
