I have had several clients with rotator cuff surgery this year, one 79 years of age. They seemed to do fine and stuck to their PT regimen. I missed getting my MD along the way, and have only been in the hospital twice in my adult life, but I can offer you one tip: Don't let any visitors in while you are doped up. The first time, (trusted) visitors said I was trying to sell them season baseball tickets. The last time, in February, the ICU nurses said I kept demanding a wine list.
