Shoot with them on a very shallow level. Feel they need to declare they have a big interest in PHOTOGRAPHY or are photographers. But can't bring that camera passion and playing with money passion into making pictures passion. Those are the the only people who have gear problems. Why can't they just say "I love to buy and sell cameras" is there something wrong with that? NO it has to be justified with a shallow photography thing. If you loved collecting stamps would you feel like you needed to call yourself a graphic artist? An illustrator? An expert in graphic design? Heck no you'd just say " I like to collect stamps".
