Subject: [Leica] Slightly OT: How To Batch Rename Mac Image Files?

The problem is that I have to rename them before I move them from the
SD card to their folder on the hard drive; otherwise they will
overwrite the existing file of the same name.

I don't ordinarily import from the SD card into LR.

I copy them to a folder on the laptop's hard drive; and to an external
hard drive; and then I import them into LR from the laptop's hard
drive.
