But I think you might be overstating things a little. I use aperture preferred mode. If lighting changes I don't have to do a thing. Should I want to use a different aperture, there is the horribly inconvenient requirement of having to manually turn the aperture ring. Also, if I change my mind and want to focus on some other object that's nearer or farther away, I have to manually turn a focusing ring. I know that's terribly cumbersome (but in practice no different from using an M8 or M9). On the bright side, and often overlooked, the battery lasts forever :-) The D700/Leitax/RLens is WYSIWYG in the viewfinder. That may not be for everyone. And electronic focus assist only works at f5.6 or wider. Not perfect, but not a deal killer for many, either. They were and are a PITA. I want never to go back that route. Yes, you can preset everything, focus and shoot, but as soon as the light changes due to the sun, or the placement of the action, or a cloud, or whatever, you are back to where you started.... slow. Dead slow. If you must manually stop down a lens, meter, change aperture/shutter speed, and recompose, how can anyone think this is not a non-immediate action? That is why I do not find the lens adapters and Nikon/Canon bodies at all a solution to the Digi-R. YMMV.
