Your cultural background point is right on the money. I was born and raised
in South Africa. To me scenes similar to this are a part of my past.
To most Europeans and Americans, especially those who have not travelled
much, they may be other-worldly.
Our banal past (or present) is other's exotica.
The appeal of "Street Photography" is that it captures the banal of the
locale and presents it as exotica when seen with a different eye.
I succumb to that appeal.
