I don't necessarily mean it in a "bemoaning" way. But I do see the effects as lowering both quality standards as well as our professional incomes. Neither of these effects enhance our culture. I'm also teaching black smiths how to photograph their metal work; through articles in their print magazine, The Anvil's Ring, and at a seminar in the spring of 2010. My hope is that they'll realize that to achieve the finest quality will require a significant investment in quality tools and time; which may be better spent on producing their metal work. The upside is that I am passing along my experience; which I do feel is an important thing for all of us to do (before we check out of this life).
