1000 and above are great for automated processing. Mix, push the button and
come back in X minutes.
For small volumes, not really worth it unless you're doing E6 (very
temperature fussy). And then a small volume of E6 can be done in the CPPs.
And I agree, fun no matter which way you do it. Always a miracle to me when
I unwind from the reels and see the image!

Just found an ATL 1500 on eBay for $3000. Yet another reason to DIY. I
could buy an M8 for that price!
