Partly because of animal welfare considerations and partly because of the Catalan nationalism considerations--bull fighting is seen as a Spanish, Castillan tradition, so for some Catalans it is yet another way to flick the bird at Madrid. As for the injuries: of course nobody likes to see a 10-year old get hurt. But for example when they have the annual running of the bulls through the streets of Pamplona and other places, and I hear that one of the runners has been hurt or killed, I feel absolutely no compassion. He took a risk and lost (it is always men). And the event should not be happening in the first place. Some traditions are nice, others (like bull fighting and say, public hangings) do not belong in a civilised society.
