The quality of Chai in US is all over the place. One coffee house around here does it without sugar at all but with some bitter spices other than or in addition to cardamom. A lot of shops use a commercial mix such as the Oregon chai brand, which tastes fine. One reason we patronize Starbuck even though normally we normally eschew chain stores is because at least their chai is mostly consistently good enough. The best chai around here, IMHO, is from a place called Tandorii Oven. They have "bottomless" chai. yummy.
