Richard,
As far as Nikon is concerned, the DX (crop factor) bodies and lenses
are largely made in Thailand, the FX (full frame) bodies and the pro
lenses (as well as steppers) in Japan, Coolpix largely in Indonesia
and China. Some of the standard primes (50mm, etc) are also made in
China.
