If you show up to photograph the governor's speech with a 110 camera and realize you're out of film, you're out of luck. If you're using what everybody else is using it's easier to get or borrow lenses/memory cards/iphone chargers. Another one is simple simian attempts at duplication. If I see something wonderfully lit I'm very curious as to what light modifiers were used because I want to be able to duplicate it. Thirdly, I think anybody who's on a listserv dedicated to a piece of equipment is probably predisposed to be curious about equipment....
