Close range does not work on a modified DR. On an unmodified lens. you
can mount the lens in close focus mode and use it with goggles
just fine if you don't want to permanently change it.

It's not the curved swoosh, is the whole close range cam follower
which is ground down. Afterwards the lens can physically be pulled out
to close-focus mode but there is no rangefinder coupling. So the lens
becomes a chrome rigid summicron after modification.

You CAN take the optical unit from the DR and transplant it into a
focusing unit of a rigid if you happen to find one with ugly optics.
This is what I did so as not to permanently modify my favorite lens.
