Methinks you guys protest too much.

So tell me Ted, how much did you pay Ken for his advice on creating sepia
prints in Photoshop? He was giving away hard won knowledge for free. Next
time guys when someone asks for advice on a photographic or computer problem
make them pay up front. Isn't that the philosophy most  "professionals"
subscribe to. Responding to carping about my provincialism and focus on the
US, I was responding to a statement made by an American about another
American who donated his photos to an American publication. Next time I'll
take a more worldly view.

And Chris, obviously you didn't read my first post carefully enough. The
last sentence was "Perhaps it is harder to make a living as a poet than as a
photographer. But not much." If most of the local residents where you live
make less than $8 per hour, it must be a really depressed area. I was
brought up in Indiana, went to school there, and worked there and I never
realized what a poverty stricken place it was.

I stand by my statements. Photography is not a profession in the legal sense
of the word. It is a craft. One which I practiced successfully as a paid
photographer for the Boston Globe in the '50s until I was called to fight in
the Korean Police Action. The GI Bill helped pay for my graduate education.
I decided that there were better ways to make a living than snapping
pictures for a paper that would be used to wrap fish the next day.
