John don't be upset because I sounded like a dragon in heat! :-) Didn't
think I was. :-)

I love Leica gear as much as the next guy! Actually I probably love them
more and have used them more than most, not all, than many on list.

Since about 1967 or earlier I have worked 3 R type cameras and a pile of
lenses to match those bodies. Along with 3 M bodies of similar model.
Sometimes daily for months on end during my documentary assignments.

My reaction to handling the S2 is that it is an amazing piece of
photographic gear without question. And good on anybody who has the very
good fortune to have one, or three and lenses to use. My biggest problem is
with "LEICA the company" and yes I know their economic problems during the
past years. But what they did was, let down all of us who have stood behind
and supported them for many many years and that isn't just the members of
the LUG family here!

They fiddled and farted about with some kind of "digital attachment" for the
R8 and R9. Many bought into it and many have been left hanging out in the
dump with a piece of junk! No it isn't a piece of junk really, it has an
incredible potential and people on list have shown what the DMR could do
many many times.

But there were so many horror stories by so many who bought the DMR and just
when they required physical support for the craping out bits and pieces!
.... LEICA abandoned them! Batteries and heaven knows what all else!

So what do they do? They bring out an absolutely smashingly stunning for
quality, fantastic digital SLR camera that damn few of their for years
followers can afford or couldn't purchase. Yes I know all the stories
about.. "What's your problem? Just because you can't afford one, does that
mean they shouldn't have made the S2?"

No I don't have any problem with their price. However, I do have a major
problem with them in that they let those of us who supported and purchased
their SLR cameras before all others right from the beginning, were let down
and screwed!

The S2 without question is a smashing great camera, probably the best Leica
ever made in their SLR line.

Your example is interesting in quality, quite possibly for the type of
photography you do. But for those of us who have generally worked in a form
of photojournalism for 60 years the S2 quality is almost overkill! The DMR
was and is beautiful for quality. If only everyone could be lucky enough
that it would keep on working.

It would've been nice if LEICA had come out with a fine working SLR that
allowed us to use our R lenses without the misery trailing the DMR. Don't
get me totally wrong. The DMR when working properly creates a quality many
other manufacturers' lack without question.

I suggest you have no fear about posting to the LUG family any time or in
the future. By the same token you might, like many of us, :-) have yer tail
bitten or supposedly bitten on occasion. :-)

Looking forward to your next post.

Cheers,
Dr. ted. :-)
