I with Uncle T here.

We hear lots of talk here about the unsuitability of flatbed scanners for 
negatives. While I'm sure they are not the BEST tool for the job, they can 
certainly be sufficient for at least some demanding uses.

I've uploaded two recent scans from my Epson 4870 (came out generation prior 
to Uncle T's 4990)

Both are from 35mm P3200 and handheld shots.

Bruce Hampton is at the about 7500 pixels first scanned, but converted to 
JPEG without compression.
Neenna Freelon is the same film and handheld, but downsampled from its scan 
of 7500 pixels to 5000 pixels (to fit gallery rules)
