George,
You are there in the thick of things, so these things look immediate and
important. Let me assure you that from half a globe away, and with a
necessarily much more macro perspective, it just looks like a local issue
which has very little overall bearing on the US economy. It is like a string
of corruption issues in my state right now (not minor - US$10 billion in
all) - it looks important to me, but you would not even know about it, and
it is much more serious than what is happening in Wisconsin!
