Been reading this debate. Recommend interested folks read, or skim, 
"Overconnected: the promise and threat of THE INTERNET," by William H. 
Davidow. 

It's a thought piece about connectivity and interdependency and more through 
time, the development of networks -- and their impact on local, area-wide, 
national and international relationships from development to economic crises.

Lots to think about.
